Oooo - this was cool that I ALMOST got a hook up over the weekend; First off, do the pics scare you? I hope so! mwuahahahaha! They are stills from a movie called Battle Royal - a Japanese movie that I have unsuccessfully tried to get 2 times over the last year via Ebay and both times, I had my money stolen from me, so I gave up. What's so cool about this flick? IT'S BANNED IN THE UNITED STATES! It's been banned due to the nature of the movie - it's SO violent that it would not get cleared to be sold here. I went to a swap meet over the weekend (I LOVE swap meets - not for the deals, but to see some of the whacky people that attend it and it helps that I like to watch people - anyway, it truly is the "dirt mall" but damn, I'm hooked on 'em, can't help it!). So why is it banned? What about the violence? Well.............
Battle Royal, in a nutshell, has to do with a future with severe over-population. So the "bad" kids in a school get picked to go on a "special" field trip - but it's not a field trip. Each kid is fitted with a "tracking" collar and are told that the last one standing gets to leave the island. The hitch? They have to kill each other in 24 hours or the collars explode and only one can leave the island. Gruesome, no? Like I said, it's been super hard for me to get this movie and me being a movie FREAK, I HAD to have it - so I found some guys selling a copy at the swap-meet; the problem was that it was a region 3 dvd, which I don't believe my player will play it (I have a high end Sony DVD player in which the code is SO hard to break, it's nearly impossible to watch any DVD's other than for region 1's). So anyway, I told the guys to hook me up next weekend, which they said they would, so keep yer fingers crossed for Wicked to score this flick!

ReplyDeletelol - it's not scary, but suppose to be gory as hell - ultra violent - cuz each kid is given a random weapon, like a knife, gun, bat, screwdriver, etc - so it's not ever a clean kill - i think at the start of it, 2 kids kill each other by hanging themselves cuz they don't want to kill anyone.

Iunno where to find it, but I'm sure u can find someone sellin them out of the trunk of their car or in a non-liscensed shop o_o (also bargain with them, lol, as long as u are persistant and extremely cheap they will always sell to u)

ReplyDeleteif you still feel bad bout copyright or anything, (which doesn't really matter, the product is not sold in your jurisdiction so not really breaking the law... But I can understand not wanting to take money out of the companys pocket) you can always still buy the jap version o_o

Hi Jay - actually, you can find a region 1 verson - it's just gonna be a pirated copy - also, most players, and I don't think many people know this, can be manipulated to play any region - the problem is trying to do it correctly so you don't fuck up your player. Sony and Pioneer players are 2 of the best in regards to dvd security - it's really hard to manipulate the code to play the DVD. But get a cheap player and you can actually change it up to do what you want. On the Sony DVD players, there's an actual way to manipulate the code using your remote control - but the steps are hella hard and almost not worth the time to mess with - I'm not. If they pirated the copy correctly, it should play smoothly with a region 1 dvd player, but you may lose quality with 5.1 channel sound.

Yah, i thought about going the bit-torrent route, but I dont' have the patience to let that run for so long - and I have difficulty burning it to a DVD+rw disc for some reason ( I still have episode 3 of star wars on my comp but can't get it to burn to disc)
ReplyDeleteheh - where are you Lith? Yah, Battle Royal has been out for a while, but if you do a google search, you can see a ton of stills from the movie and synopses - it sounds just like the Lord of the Flies, but these kids were put on the island on purpose - I'm still trying to get a copy - :(
ReplyDeleteI have both Battle Royal I and II. I tell you, I is way better than II. I have both movies in a file format (.mpeg) but mine is in Japanese... (with Korean translation underneath it) so I guess you can't understand it o.O!
